Here are the extension and config files I'm using for TeX-ing in VSCode: Extensions: You need to have a working LaTeX distribution with the tlmgr package manager to install the packages that you are going to include in your files. A noticeable downside is that it is written in Electron, and here why Electron is considered harmful (but VSCode is still a great text editor).įor my LaTeX documents, I've migrated from TeXStudio to VSCode because I want to use a single text editor for all of my projects. There is also support for external debuggers, a full-screen zen mode and it is configured with JSON files (more on configuration in the next paragraphs). There is a good set of available extensions that you can install with a click, it is relatively fast and it provides everything you may need for working with version control in your repositories. If I have to write code or text for small projects, I use the amazing kakoune editor, if I'm working on big projects where advanced code linting, autocompletion and IDE features are needed Visual Studio Code is my editor of choice. The flatpak install is also quite bulky (1.8 GB since it includes a full LaTeX compiler distribution). Another downside is that when you first level up from discovering LaTeX, and begin to take lecture notes in the editor, the default keyboard shortcuts are not friendly for sped up typing. The themes are not so great looking and the PDF viewer has some noteworthy bugs. This also makes it hard to sync TeXStudio settings across different machines. ini file, making it quite annoying to configure if not from the graphical interface. The first one is that it is configured in a single. Flatpak-ed applications also have their own advantages and downsides, but I will not focus on discussing them this time. I've installed TeXStudio from flatpak, the package already contains a LaTeX distribution to compile your documents, which is not included if you install TeXStudio manually on your system. What you have is also a nicely documented set of menus and buttons, that help you format and insert symbols, graphics, figures, environments into your documents. There are configurable shortcuts for almost everything, from inserting environments to handling tables and files. The UX is fine, what you have is an almost WYSIWYG editor written in C++ using the Qt GUI toolkit. It is a great TeX writing environment if it is your first time approaching LaTeX. TeXStudio is a cross-platform open-source LaTeX editor and IDE. In less than half an hour I had the knowledge to write not perfect, but at least readable lecture notes in a basic Mathematics course. This is how I've got introduced to the world of writing LaTeX. He began to show me how he writes notes, slides and papers using TeXStudio, and he showed me some tips and tricks to write preludes for projects that make use of a lot of mathematical notation. Berarducci, always eager to answer his students' questions, noticed that I was making a mess by mixing up markdown and LaTeX. I was in my discrete maths and linear algebra Professor's office to ask some questions related to the courses. I kept taking notes in markdown for a couple of months while thinking that LaTeX was somehow complicated and esoteric, until one day. At first, I've started using MathJax, a cross-browser JavaScript library used to display mathematical notation in browsers I didn't know anything about the TeX world yet, except that it was the standard for writing books and scientific papers. I first stumbled into LaTeX as a first year computer science student, I was taking lecture notes in markdown and I wanted to include mathematical notation in them. If you have any questions you can query the huge database of answered questions at Tex Stack Exchange If you want to learn more, you can head over to the excellent WikiBook. In this article I will not cover the basics of LaTeX. It is a textual markup language for producing digitally distributed files, ready to be printed. LaTeX is the most used document preparation system in the academia world, derived from the TeX typesetting system, first written by the Legendary Donald Knuth.

Q5: Why do I only get 50Mbps download speed on a speed test tool, when the router says it is a 300Mbps device? A: 300 Mbps refers to the WLAN internal link speed between the router and the computer, it is different from the actual internet speed. If the router has 100mbps LAN ports, normally the local network link speed will show 100Mbps if the Ethernet Adapter and cable support 100Mbps. The wired local network link speed is limited by the capability of router’s LAN ports, the type of Ethernet cables and the Ethernet Adapter of the computer. Q4 : Why does my wired local network link speed on the computer show 100Mbps when the router says it is 300Mbps capable?Ī: 300Mbps refers to the maximum wireless link speed. Q3: The link speed (wireless) on the computer shows 325Mbps when the router says it is 1300Mbps capable on 5GHz, why the difference?Ī: Different wireless clients will negotiate different link speeds with the wireless router, based on the wireless modes, distance, and noise level (the level of interference from other wireless transmissions). * Wireless connection – Physical or environmental interference, Hardware specifications of router and adapter, the number of antennas, etc.Ĭlick here to know how to check link speed.Ĭlick here to know more about the 802.11 theoretical wireless speed. * Wired connection – Ethernet Port type on the router and the adapter, and the type of Ethernet cable used. The native Old English word for the squirrel, ācweorna, survived only into Middle English (as aquerne) before being replaced. The word squirrel, first attested in 1327, comes from the Anglo-Norman esquirel which is from the Old French escurel, the reflex of a Latin word sciurus, which was taken from the Ancient Greek word σκίουρος ( skiouros from σκία-ουρος) 'shadow-tailed', referring to the long bushy tail which many of its members have. The earliest known fossilized squirrels date from the Eocene epoch, and among other living rodent families, the squirrels are most closely related to the mountain beaver and to the dormice. Squirrels are indigenous to the Americas, Eurasia, and Africa, and were introduced by humans to Australia. The squirrel family includes tree squirrels, ground squirrels (including chipmunks and prairie dogs, among others), and flying squirrels. Squirrels are members of the family Sciuridae ( / s ɪ ˈ j uː r ɪ d eɪ, - d iː/), a family that includes small or medium-size rodents.
We could see the Priest, Three Ridges and the slopes of Wintergreen Resort. We took some time to take off our heavy packs and enjoy the view. We had this lofty ridge all to ourselves. These views are about 2.5 miles from the better known outcropping of Humpback Rocks, and we thought they were even nicer! The crowds, graffiti and car noise always take away from the experience at Humpback Rocks. However, we were pleasantly surprised to find spectacular views along the rocky, spiny ridge of Humpback Mountain. We also knew from past hikes on Dobie Mountain that we’d be passing one decent overlook at Glass Hollow. We figured we might take the side trail to Humpback Rocks and eat lunch there. We didn’t really have any expectations for great views on this hike. Soon after that, the views started to open up. We saw several nice campsites along the trail. The hike continued gradually uphill along the side of Humpback Mountain. Below: Hiking up Humpback Mountain Adam checks out the view of Wintergreen Pretty views. Christine enjoys the outcropping overlooking Wintergreen. The sign included an outline drawing of a moose, and we both found it comical to think about the implausibility of Virginia water being contaminated by a moose. We noticed the sign marking the spring indicated that water might be contaminated and should be filtered or boiled. The bottles were situated next to one of the trail’s spring-fed water sources. Typically by September, streams and springs in the Shenandoah Valley are dry or running very low, so the free, clean water would be quite welcome. The camera and whiteboard were provided so that hikers could take photos with their trail names.Ī couple tenths of a mile down the trail, we passed even more trail magic in the form of 2 liter-sized bottles of tap water from Wintergreen Resort. We found a log book, a camera, a small whiteboard, a bottle of ibuprofen and a nice supply of granola bars. Almost immediately, we spotted a small cooler alongside the trail – trail magic! We didn’t need (or take) any trail magic on our hike, but we were curious so we opened the cooler to see what was inside. The hike starts out climbing gently uphill through the woods. The AT crosses the parkway at this point, so it’s an easy place to hop on without using any access trails or spurs. Supposedly, it was a water source well-used by Monocan Indians en route to summer hunting grounds. The name Dripping Rock refers to the small spring adjacent to the parking area. From there, we drove our second vehicle to the Dripping Rock parking area at mile 9.6 on the BRP. For this hike, we left one car parked in the small lot near where the Blue Ridge Parkway (BRP) crosses I-64 and Rt250. We started our morning with a big breakfast at Thunderbird Café and then made the 40 minute drive to the trailhead. Following an all-day soaking rain and a cold front on Saturday, we had ideal weather for hiking and camping on Sunday into Monday – low humidity, clear skies, daytime highs in the 70s and a nighttime low near 45. On an openforum recommendation I got Terran Conflict, and it has grabbed me quite well. Voice acting is horrible and the little animated portraits are crap. Everything else seems top notch (not far enough in to comment on missions and storyline, but I'm mostly in it for the Space Tycoon and exploration anyway). I can't really wrap my head around controlling other ships. Is there a way to move windows around and keep them on screen while doing other things?.The interface is pretty good, but there is a lot of shit to keep track of so questions crop up. Any way to get a list of enemies I can target? A small window sortable by type and range would be awesome.Does everything in a sector show up on the sector map? Or could there be 'hidden' stuff that I need to get close to or something?.I launch in one - how do I tell the other one to launch and follow me? I have two ships, docked at the same station. anything I should install? I'm not in need of a ton of storyline or things like that, but obvious interface improvements or other things that augment the out-of-box experience? I have <4k credits, so that dream is quite some way offĪny strategy pointers for gathering credits in the very early game? My ambition is to set up a vast intercultural trading empire.I took the 'Terran Defender' start, and I have two fighters now - an M4 and an M5.I seem to be struggling a bit with targeting. You can give commands to other ships by either showing your owned ships and choosing command console on them, or by targeting them and choosing command console. From there you can give them orders like follow me, attach all targets, etc. Some commands require certain mods to be on the ship however. Learning keyboard shortcuts makes the game much easier to play and enjoy. Sector items are limited to showing based on your equipped scanner range. The triplex scanner is the longest range. You can filter the sector map to show enemies by range, however, target nearest enemy is very useful as well. Good for scouting, but it's fairly weak in the vanilla game. It can take out other M5s and some M4 with fancy flying. There are some very cheesy, easy ways to get money and some more difficult. To get easy money, do missions and sell the extremely valuable stuff you get from them (ships). You can also trade (energy cells < crystals < silicon). Combat missions, especially sector defense are very good money. My personal favorite way to make credits is Sector/Universe traders, which are automated traders who do the dirty work for you of buying and selling. The docking computer saves a ton of time, the best buys computer is a must for trading and the best scanning/combat mods are helpful. The X3 forums are very helpful and also have a list of great mods. X3 is one of those games I cannot play without certain mods. Luckily there is a great mod manager and a standard for one-click installation. You can also add owned ships into various wings and then use hot-keys to have the wings follow, attack, etc. This is helpful when launching fighters from your mothership or carrier. I'm beginning to get the hang of it, although parts of the interface design seems really stupid. |
